Swara is a Sanskrit term that means ‘sound’, which means controlling the breath through the nostril. Also known as Shiva Swarodaya, Swara Yoga is a form of yoga that focuses on the manipulation of the breath to achieve self-realization. It is different from Pranayama, which relates to controlling the breath. Swara yoga is broader than Prayanama as its practices are relatively more comprehensive and extensive. This form of yoga integrates the understanding of the lunar, seasonal, and lunar activities; as well as the mental and physical conditions of the yogi. Swara yoga has a number of benefits. It enhances the quantity and quality of life force. The transformation of a body-based approach to a breath-based approach creates harmony and reduces blockages in the body. It is an intuitive and creative form of yoga, wherein each individual is allowed to create their own connection with the practice.
