Naturopathy is a unique set of principles that lays emphasis on the body’s innate healing capacity and promotes individual ability to obtain optimal health. In recent years, many NGOs and Voluntary organizations have come up to establish Naturopathy Health homes, Yoga, and degree colleges. Through the naturopathy course, Naturopaths learn the basic sciences that have been taught to medical professionals. Presently, there are 12 colleges in India which have been engaged in preparing professional Naturopaths. There are three colleges in Karnataka which are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore; four colleges in Tamil Nadu, two in Andhra Pradesh, One in Ayush University, Raipur, Chattisgarh, One in Barkatullah University, Bhopal and Ayurveda University, Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Introduction of Yoga and Naturopathy on an educational ground
In this contemporary time, the idea of natural healing has been hugely popularized among people, which has eventually paved a sound path for naturopathic medicine practitioners. The approach of naturopathy course not only encompasses Yoga and Naturopathy philosophy but also accentuates the importance of clinical tools and modes. These colleges offer theoretically, practically, and clinical facilities that help students to grow multifariously. This course is designed to teach students about various treatment modalities that are absolutely natural and drugless in every aspect.
In the last few years, many Modern Medical Institutes of the Country have taken many steps to spread awareness about Yoga and its various aspects. As people tend to accept Yoga as a tool for balanced and all-round development of human personality, some major universities have established the Yoga department wherein teacher’s training programs are going on. To promote the importance of Yoga, UGC is financing the universities to start the Yoga courses in their universities and as a result, some of them have started imparting Yoga education by designing the course from certificate to Ph.D. level courses, and some are likely to introduce a Yoga department in the approaching years. In some foreign universities, the faculty of yoga has been constituted, while the research work is in progress. Moreover, some of the states have proposed to introduce Yoga in their educational curriculum. It is also a mere fact that there are about one thousand yoga teachers who have been appointed in different branches of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Delhi Government, and New Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The power of Yoga and Naturopathy has been tremendously adopted by western countries to naturally heal the body’s disruption. Not only India but there are many countries where yoga is being practiced on a regular basis for the treatment of psychosomatic disorders. Also, the education of Naturopathy has been greatly stressed in western countries. There are several colleges in various parts of the USA, Britain, Germany such as the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Oregon, and the British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy, London.
