Where do raw materials for manufacturing Ayurvedic medicines come from?

Ayurveda is the antiquated system of medicine which is as old as the Vedic age. The Ayurvedic medicines are derived mainly from plants, animal extracts, and minerals. Ayurvedic compound formulations are categorized into two groups, which include:

  • Kasthausadhi (primarily plant drugs): It involves several categories such as Asavaristra, Avleha, Taila, etc.
  • Rasausadhi (mainly metals and minerals): The chief elements such as Bhasma, Pisti, Lauha, Kapibadkva, Rasayana etc.

 On the whole, the Ayurvedic drugs are prepared from the vegetable sources from the various parts of the plant like root, leaf, flower, fruit extrude or plant.
